Indiana University has received over 3,300 books from the late Professor Elliot Sperling’s library. The collection, bequeathed to IU curtesy of Elliot’s daughter, Coline, includes over 1,000 volumes in Tibetan, close to 1,000 in Chinese, and the rest in multiple languages. Some of these books are unique in American collections. Once IU librarians complete cataloging the materials, the books would be available also for inter-library loan through the Wells Library. We are grateful to Elliot’s daughter, and to Elliot’s former students in the New York City area for their invaluable assistance in sorting out and transporting the books.
